Programme Manager (Sudan) at Legal Action Worldwide (LAW)
The post holder will perform duties in accordance with the
responsibilities outlined below:
Programme Management
- Lead
the expansion of the Sudan Programme, developing new objectives and
expanding to new locations.
- Lead
and coordinate policy, research, legal and advocacy efforts.
- Develop
and lead the implementation of LAW’s work with victims and survivors of
international crimes and human rights violations and abuses, including
gender-based violence, through investigating and building strategic
litigation cases, strengthening the capacity of lawyers and legal
actors, creating and implementing corresponding advocacy strategies.
- Support
the work of partners and build their capacity, delivering technical
assistance, monitoring, fundraising, M&E and security, safeguarding
and other relevant skills.
- Develop
and maintain strong relationships with key actors including relevant
government and justice actors, donors, NGOs, United Nations, partners and
other relevant groups in the region.
- Deliver
the project(s) in accordance with proposals, budgets, MEAL methodologies,
LAW policies and procedures and donor regulations.
- Lead
on risk management.
- Prepare
budgets and oversee programme expenditure, and implementation of
expenditure plans.
- Coordinate
with LAW’s Senior Management Team, and other programme managers as
required.
Fundraising
- Develop
a fundraising strategy to identify opportunities to ensure the
sustainability and expansion of programmes.
- Ensure
timely and quality narrative reporting to donors and compliance with donor
grant requirements and LAW policies and procedures.
- Lead
on concept notes, proposals and donor reports.
People Management
- Lead
the team effectively, ensuring high calibre staff are recruited and
retained.
- Foster
an enabling environment for innovation and high performance, ensuring
staff are appropriately supervised, develop work plans and engaged in
training and development.
- Manage
network of technical experts and their consultancy agreements.
- Ensure
the offices are compliant with all relevant legal requirements relating to
employment law as well as safety, security, health and safety
regulations.
Advocacy and Communications
- Design
advocacy strategies and products that can be shared with both internal and
external stakeholders, based on evidence gathered from the programmes.
- Design
and organise trainings, workshops, roundtables and other
events.
- Contribute
to LAW’s advocacy tools, including factsheets and annual reporting.
Any other tasks relevant to the position as requested by
senior management.
About You
- A
master’s degree in law, or human rights.
- Qualified
lawyer with 5 years demonstrated experience working in international
humanitarian law, human rights law, justice and accountability, criminal
law, or refugee law.
- Minimum
5 years’ experience representing vulnerable individuals in legal aid
services and working on cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
- Demonstrated
experience in a similar project management position, including planning,
design, M&E, and budget management.
- Track
record of management skills and experience to lead and motivate a
geographically dispersed team.
- Excellent
written and oral communication in English and secondary language Arabic is
an asset, with the ability to clearly articulate information to various
audiences and stakeholders.
Finance Assistant (Nairobi) at Legal Action Worldwide (LAW)
Duties and Responsibilities
Finance
- Review
and validate supporting documentation
before processing financial transactions to ensure all
required documents are accurate and complete with the necessary
approvals.
- Ensure maintenance
of all data required for processing financial transactions for assigned
accounts in Navision financial accounting package.
- Record
financial transactions following
appropriate authorisation.
- Review
and analyze various accounts to detect irregularities and advise on
corrective actions and prepare correcting entries and adjustments, as
necessary.
- Prepare
journals for posting and ensure that all journals are posted into
Navision.
- Prepare,
monitor, alert the programme managers,
and manage the process of closing expiring grants as required within the grants closure period. - Ensure
the integrity and quality of the data in the Navision financial database
including and not limited reviewing, analysis of
various accounts and alert the supervisor of any
irregularities.
Accounting
- Support
the Finance Coordinator in the budget preparation including review of new
project proposals for internal & external submission.
- Support
in the preparation of the monthly Budget v Actuals Reports (BvA) and
Master Budgets respond to any queries from programs relating to
the BvA reports.
- Preparation
of finance indicators reports on monthly basis alert management on any
exceptions and make recommendations as appropriate.
- Monitor
disbursement/receipt schedules for partners and staff BERs (Business
expenditure Reports) alert relevant staff of due payments/liquidations and
maintain appropriate communication.
- Evaluate
and monitor LAW’s local partners financial management processes in
accordance with partnership agreements and policies, monitor submission of
and review monthly financial reports and provide timely feedback.
- Support
and mentor LAW’s local partners in financial accounting and transactions,
financial accounting policies and procedural compliance, and design and
deliver capacity building programs to our partners
in person and remotely.
- Perform
assigned treasury (cash payment/receipt, cash forecast, etc.) duties if
segregation of duties is ensured.
Administration
- Support
the procurement process, obtaining three quotes from suppliers and
consultants, and prepare bid analysis.
- Support
with organising office supplies, equipment inventory, booking
venue’s and procurement processes and maintain inventory.
- Maintain
filing systems, contractual documents, and asset registers.
- Maintain
and keep accurate and up to date hard copies and digital financial support
records.
- Ensure
clear audit trail of processed transactions and their linkage to the
accounting system.
- Support
in implementation of any accounting and financial audit
recommendations.
- Support
and preparation of staff’s salaries, suppliers’ invoices,
consultants, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and other statutory payments on a
timely basis.
- Petty
Cash Management.
- The
post holder may be required to travel to the
field.
About You
- Bachelor’s
degree in accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration with
courses in accounting, or a qualification in accounting (CPA 2/ACCA
2 or equivalent).
- Two years’
experience working in similar position working in a
complex finance department or team, preferably with an
international and/or local NGO.
- Knowledge
of the relevant main donor regulations preferred – NORAD, EU,
Dutch Government, SIDA, Swiss Solidarity.
- Excellent
relationship building skills and a proactive approach to problem
solving.
- Strong
organization skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent
written and verbal communication skills in English, written and
spoken.
- Proficient
in MS Office packages (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), Web
Conferencing Applications.
- Knowledge
of Navision ERP financial accounting package or similar
financial reporting software preferred.
- Demonstrated

Communications Coordinator (Nairobi) at Legal Action Worldwide (LAW)
The Communications Coordinator will work
collaboratively with programme teams in the field, extracting
key impact information to increase visibility, profile
key events and advocacy activities in the region, and globally. The
post holder will perform duties in accordance with the responsibilities
outlined below:
Strategic Communication
- Develop an activity
calendar for the programmes (Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan and
Sudan), covering plans for social media; website,
press, exhibitions, events, awards and
external communication.
- Monitor and track
indicators and evaluate media coverage, campaigns, publication prints
and digital to maximise efficiency.
- Coordinate
and support preparation of key messaging, research reports, and
concept notes for events.
- Attend
LAW and/or external partner events together with
the Programme Manager and develop relevant content.
- Establish
strong relationships with and maintain list of national and
regional network and journalistic contacts.
- Attend field
visits (including with regional travel), and take
professional photos and videos for championing and profiling
successful stories and social media posts.
- Collate
information from
country programmes for the global newsletters and
website content, in coordination with the Communications Manager
in Geneva.
- Any
other task requested by management.
Social Media and Digital Engagement
- Support
the Communications Manager to develop a social media plan and identify
various audiences for LAW’s social media channels, and how to increase
LAW’s engagement in country.
- Collaborate
to populate the global social media plan, and in coordination with the
Communications Manager, design, deliver and
maintain engaging content for
LAW’s key social media channels, including
Twitter, to create impactful stories, case studies, and other engaging content.
- Maintain
a strong coordination mechanism with locally hired consultants, as
videographers and photographers, and with global graphic
designers and coordinate planning and deliverables.
- In
coordination with the Communications Manager, ensure all visual
materials developed by the global graphic designer meet the
expectations, and match LAW’s visual identity
and vision.
- Lead
on the creation, and design of innovative, information
toolkits (audio, digital).
- Maintain
and update content for regional website pages.
- Research
and analyze performance on the various platforms and make recommendations
on how to improve our communications.
Events & Campaigns
- Lead
in planning and hosting public events, roundtables, briefings, etc, across
programmes, in Nairobi and other offices in the region.
- Provide logistical
support for missions and events including visa, travel, accommodation
arrangements for participants and LAW staff traveling to Nairobi/other
countries in the region.
- Prepare materials
for events including save the dates, invitations, flyers, agendas, and
distribute in coordination
with Programme Managers.
- Provide other administrative
and procurement support in the Nairobi office as needed.
- This
post will require travel toprogramme countries including
Somalia , Sudan and South Sudan.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree
in communications, marketing, media relations, journalism or relevant
field;
- Minimum 4 years
demonstrated experience working in journalism, media relations, advocacy
or communications in a similar role.
- 4 years
proven experience in a similar role designing, drafting
and developing traditional and social media content for
dissemination.
- Demonstrated
experience in journalism.
- Relevant
experience working within an international NGOs is preferred, ideally
in human rights or humanitarian field.
- Track
record of highly effective content production and social
media management.
- Excellent
knowledge of video editing.
- Excellent
written and oral skills in English and second regional language
(Arabic) is an asset, with the ability to clearly
articulate information to various audiences and stakeholders.
- Ability
to work on own initiative and part of the wider team.
- Experience
in photography, ideally with DSLR cameras or
similar preferred.
- Proficiency
in Microsoft Office Suite especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft
PowerPoint and strong technical literacy.
- The
legal right to work in Kenya.
