Field Officer (Fixed Term Contract)
The Field Officer (FO) will be part of the frontline team
implementing GiveDirectly’s Program in Migori County. FOs are responsible for
executing activities across multiple enrollment stages, ensuring accurate data
collection, and effective community engagement. This role demands a high level
of integrity, empathy, professionalism, adaptability, and attention to detail.
A strong understanding of the local context is essential. Field Officers serve
as the face of GiveDirectly in the community and play a critical role in
building trust and ensuring the program’s success and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Recipient Engagement and Fieldwork Execution
- Conduct
household visits to enroll eligible recipients.
- Accurately
explain GiveDirectly’s program, processes, and recipient rights to ensure
informed participation.
- Support
recipients in navigating enrollment processes with empathy and
professionalism.
- Ensure
respectful, dignified interactions that uphold GD’s values and community
trust.
- Address
recipient questions or complaints on-site, escalating complex issues to
management as needed.
Data Collection and Quality Assurance
- Collect
data using mobile devices with strict adherence to survey protocols and
timelines.
- Regularly
review and data collected to ensure completeness, accuracy and
consistency.
- Work
with supervisors to resolve data inconsistencies or errors.
- Participate
in spot checks, shadowing sessions, and refresher trainings to enhance
data quality.
Program Support and Process Improvement
- Participate
in piloting new tools, surveys, or workflows and provide feedback on
usability and effectiveness.
- Share
insights from the field on process challenges, community dynamics, or
emerging trends and/or risks.
- Contribute
to the continuous improvement of operations by offering grounded,
practical feedback during debrief and brainstorming sessions.
Community Relations and Stakeholder Engagement
- Mobilize
communities for barazas (community dialogues) and support local
sensitization activities with the co-implementing partner, local
government stakeholders, and relevant local health leadership.
- Build
and maintain respectful relationships with local leaders and community
members.
- Report
community concerns, misinformation, or risk indicators to field leadership
promptly and appropriately.
Health Messaging Support
- Ensure
all communication emphasizes recipient safety, dignity, and
confidentiality, with guidance on how to access grievance and feedback
mechanisms, report safeguarding concerns, and seek assistance when needed.
Process Improvement & Learning
- Participate
in piloting new tools and processes, sharing grounded feedback from the
field.
- Contribute
to weekly debriefs and reflection sessions with the field team
Logistics and Resource Stewardship
- Safeguard
GD assets, including data collection devices, protective gear, and
recipient phones.
- Report
logistical or equipment issues promptly for repairs or replacements.
- Adhere
to team schedules, travel protocols, and safety guidelines while in the
field.
Content generation
- Identify,
collect, and document authentic, emotionally engaging recipients’ stories
that are aligned with the organization’s mission and values
- Work
with the content team to package stories for use in fundraising and
communications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
in Public Health, Community Development, Social Work, or related fields.
- Minimum
of 1 year of experience in community health, maternal and child health,
sexual reproductive health and rights, or data collection roles.
- Fluency
in Dholuo and Kiswahili is a MUST; English proficiency is an added
advantage.
- Strong
interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and
respectful approach to mothers and infants.
- Comfortable
working in remote rural areas and traveling frequently by motorbike.
- Tech-savvy,
with experience using mobile data collection tools (e.g. CommCare).
- Demonstrated
honesty, integrity, and commitment to ethical standards, especially in
handling sensitive data and recipient information.
