Mursik is a spontaneously fermented milk product common
among the KALENJIN Community.
A significant majority of Kenyan athletic heroes are Kalenjin and scenes of
them receiving a sip of mursik at the airport after having returned from
international duty form part of Kenya’s cultural tapestry.
The Community elders revealed that the fermented drink is a symbol of cultural
significance, especially during ceremonies such as marriages, initiation, and
even when victory is anticipated from athletes participating in races
internationally.
Mursik could be one of the secret weapons due to its nutritional benefits that
keep the athletes in good shape and strength to endure the tough races and
emerge victorious.
There’s a common belief that Mursik strengthens bones and is the secret behind
the endurance and speed of runners from the Rift Valley region.
The continuous praises given to this traditional drink which is an integral
part of Kalenjin culture and heritage has made it not just a Kalenjin commodity
anymore.

select trees that gives it a unique smoky flavor.
lt can be made from cow or goat’s milk (one or the other, never mixed) and is a
