Reports to: Partnership Director

Role Purpose

The Business & Community Development Officer is responsible for developing, growing, and strengthening Food Banking Kenya’s (FBK) network of food donors and beneficiary organizations. The Officer will identify and secure new food and resource donors, recruit and support beneficiary organizations, and build long-term partnerships that enhance FBK’s ability to rescue surplus food and redistribute it to vulnerable communities across Kenya.

Working closely with the Partnership Director, Project Manager, and Operations Team, the Officer will ensure that partners are effectively onboarded, actively engaged, and supported to use FBK’s digital platforms and operational systems. The role also ensures that food donations move efficiently through the network, contributing to the organization’s mission of reducing food loss and waste while improving food security.

Key Responsibilities

Partnership Development

  • Develop and implement strategies to expand FBK’s network of food donors and beneficiary organizations.
  • Identify, prospect, and recruit new food and resource donors across the agricultural and commercial supply chain, including retailers, food manufacturers, farmers, growers, markets, distributors, and packhouses.
  • Identify, assess, recruit, and onboard eligible beneficiary organizations to strengthen FBK’s community network.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective partners to support sustainable network growth.

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with food donors, beneficiary organizations, corporate partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for partner engagement, ensuring partners remain active, informed, and committed to FBK’s mission.
  • Conduct regular partner visits to strengthen relationships, monitor performance, and identify opportunities for collaboration and improvement.

Partner Onboarding and Capacity Building

  • Coordinate the onboarding of new donors and beneficiary organizations into the FBK network.
  • Train and support partners in the use of Foodiverse and other FBK digital systems to facilitate efficient food donations, collections, and reporting.
  • Ensure partners understand FBK policies, operational procedures, food safety requirements, and reporting expectations.

Network Management

  • Monitor donor participation and beneficiary engagement to ensure the effective flow of food across the network.
  • Work closely with the Operations Team to coordinate food collections, address operational challenges, and improve network efficiency.
  • Support beneficiary organizations to ensure timely food collections and compliance with programme requirements.
  • Monitor partner activity and recommend improvements that strengthen network performance and sustainability.

Business Intelligence and Reporting

  • Gather market intelligence and partner feedback to understand surplus food opportunities, operational challenges, and emerging community needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of partner engagement, food donations, beneficiary participation, and network performance.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators, including donor recruitment, beneficiary recruitment, food volumes recovered, partner retention, and platform utilization.
  • Prepare regular reports for the Partnership Director and other stakeholders.

Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent FBK at industry forums, community meetings, agricultural events, corporate engagements, and stakeholder forums.
  • Promote awareness of food recovery, food waste reduction, and food security initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to establish strategic partnerships that strengthen FBK’s impact and visibility.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Community Development, Agriculture, Development Studies, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in business development, partnership management, community engagement, account management, or programme implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing partnerships with private sector organizations, NGOs, community-based organizations, or government institutions.
  • Experience in the food, agriculture, retail, logistics, humanitarian, or development sectors is an added advantage.
  • Experience using CRM or digital partner management systems is desirable.
