Associate Manager, Production

Overview:

The Associate Manager, Production will be responsible for the implementation of production plans and programmes, as well as overseeing the quality processes to ensure optimum production to meet market demand in line with organisational objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee production planning to ensure the most efficient utilisation of plant resources and the achievement of production targets.
  • Annual, monthly and weekly resource planning for the factory based on sales forecasts, in this case labour, plant and equipment.
  • Manage and optimise production processes to ensure the achievement of all production targets.
  • Implementing other appropriate production strategies, plans and control systems.
  • Ensuring cost effective utilisation of machines, materials and staff.
  • Maintaining the required Safety, Health and Environmental standards in the factory in line with organisational SHE standards, ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), ISO 14001 – Environment Management System (EMS) requirements, and local legislation.
  • Maintaining the required Quality standards in the factory in line with organisational Quality standards, ISO 9001 – Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, and local legislation
  • Motivating, leading, developing and supervising the production team leaders.
  • Update key performance indicators for weekly, monthly and quarterly metric reviews and present to site leadership team. 
  • Liaison with Engineering, Purchasing and Planning, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, HR and other departments to ensure departmental objectives are attained.
  • Setting and attainment of discretionary goals; this involves medium term sub-projects as agreed with the Plant Manager, as part of cost reduction strategies.
  • Driving continuous improvement in production operations

Experience you’ll bring:

  • Degree in engineering or related field from a recognized university
  • 5-year work experience in a manufacturing plant preferably in FMCG.

Job Title: Associate Manager, Quality

Site: Nairobi, Kenya

Overview

To provide Leadership and manage site Quality Management to ensure that products conform to standard specifications. Provide Leadership to site Quality Pillar and ensure deployment according to the Global Pillar journey map.

To provide technical information to the Manufacturing, sales & marketing management on equipment, processes, procedures, etc. to ensure the finished products meet quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Daily Quality Management System by deploying Global standards and following the TPM methodology in the Pillar journey.
  • Quality Pillar Lead to deploy Quality Pillar tools to eradicate defects and establish zero defect mindset by also participating in other Pillars.
  • Implement Quality tools and processes for any project that comes to the SCJ Kenya site that may affect product Quality.
  • Trainer of Quality personnel (including Quality Pillar) and on-site personnel on laboratory equipment or in line processes to ensure that good quality product leaves the factory
  • Owner for managing non-conformances following Global Procedures to be shared with Regional Director for further alignment.
  • To adopt an attitude of continuous critical appraisal of current methods and procedures, and to suggest such improvements as are considered necessary. In analytical methods, to identify instruments in the laboratory.
  • To investigate the causes of all consumer and customer complaints received and take necessary action.
  • To maintain records of all packaging and raw materials; and finished product specifications and review the same periodically where necessary.
  • To audit and monitor production at third party contractors to ensure compliance with standards and recommend improvements to systems where necessary.
  • Supervision of staff in the department and to carry out periodic performance reviews for all staff in the department.
  • To ensure GMP standards are maintained within the manufacturing area and the factory at large if applicable, and carry out SQA audits in the premises of raw and packaging materials vendors in agreement and on behalf of Cluster Quality Engineering Manager.

Required Skills and Education:

  • Bachelors degree – in Applied/ Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering
  • Computer Literate
  • Analytical Thinking – to interpret data and identify trends.
  • Attention to Detail – for thorough inspections and compliance.
  • Problem-Solving – to resolve quality issues swiftly.
