POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks to recruit 3 Protection Monitors who will assist
in provision of social interventions and assistance to the most at risk and
vulnerable refugees:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify,
monitor, verify and document refugees’ human rights violations and
protection risks in the community.
- Collect
data on protection issues using standardized tools and methodologies on
KOBO Tool.
- Conduct
regular visits in the community to monitor the protection situation of
refugees and other vulnerable groups.

- Highlight
trends and protection needs in reporting to the Protection Officer and

Nairobi at the HAIS Huduma Mtaani Clinics.
- Refer
cases with protection concerns to the protection associates to ensure
their protection needs are addressed.
- Support
the Protection Officer in mapping of services and humanitarian needs.
- Build
and maintain relationships with community leaders, local authorities, and
other stakeholders.
- In
collaboration with the local authorities, identify refugees and asylum
seekers at heightened risk with specific needs, provide them with ad hoc
immediate support, and refer them for specialized services as may be
deemed appropriate.
- Assist
in the implementation of appropriate intervention for refugees at risk
through activities such as emergency shelter placement etc.
- Assist
with the translation services for refugees in the community during
activities as may be required.
- Assist
in the mobilization of community members for community forums and
sensitization campaigns in the community.
- Provide
weekly and monthly reports and data highlighting individual performance,
progress against targets and client needs.

direct assistance of the protection officer and associate, provide
training to beneficiary groups in: Refugee Rights & protection, legal
documentation and other protection related issues as determined by the
Program Supervisor

ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVES:
The primary goal is to assess the extent to which the
project achieved its protection outcomes. Specific objectives include:
- Program
Effectiveness: To evaluate the impact of Gender and GBV
programming, PSS, Legal Protection, Child Protection, and Referrals
provided to vulnerable refugees in Nairobi.
- Safety&
Accountability: To determine the percentage of beneficiaries reporting
that assistance was delivered in a safe, accessible, accountable, and
participatory manner.
- Impact
on Wellbeing: To measure the percentage of individuals reporting an
improved feeling of safety and dignity as a result of the project
interventions.
- Protection
Knowledge: To assess the increase in community knowledge regarding
protection rights and available feedback/complaint mechanisms.
- In
light of this HIAS Kenya is seeking to recruit 10 enumarators to
participate in a comprehensive training program, followed by a four-day
data collection exercise.
THE KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE RESEARCH ASSISTANT SHALL
INCLUDE:
- Training&
Preparation: Attend mandatory training for the data collection exercise to
master the evaluation tool and ethical guidelines.
- Interviewing: Conduct
interviews following guidelines and standards provided (each interview
lasts approximately 40 minutes).
- Data
Capture: Accurately capture data using digital tools such as Kobo Collect.
- Ethics: Maintain
absolute anonymity and confidentiality of respondents and uphold the Do No
Harm Principle.
- Quality
Assurance: Ensure data quality and integrity during collection and
reporting.
- Reporting:
Submit daily progress updates to the supervisor and report any challenges
to the MEAL Team.
- Equipment:
Take responsibility for any project equipment (e.g., smartphones/tablets)
provided for the exercise.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s
degree or Diploma in Humanities and Social Sciences
- At
least 1 years’ experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection
involving human subjects.
- A
similar experience with HIAS and demonstrated knowledge of working with
vulnerable refugees will be an added advantage.
- Be in
the possession of a smartphone.
- Good
understanding of data collection methods; Qualitative data collection
(e.g., FGDs, Key Informant Interviews) and Quantitative data collection

REMUNERATION AND REIMBURSEMENTS:
HIAS will remunerate and reimburse research assistants for
costs and expenses at an agreed amount as follows:

Protection Associate at HIAS Refugee Trust of Kenya
POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks to recruit a Protection Associate who will
provide comprehensive protection services to vulnerable refugee populations.
The Protection Associate will support HIAS’ protection programs by conducting
assessments, case management, referrals, and follow-up to ensure timely and
appropriate services for all clients in need. The role will contribute to
strengthening HIAS’ overall protection response, addressing risks and
vulnerabilities within refugee communities, and supporting the implementation of
protection initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Case Management and Direct Support
Assessment
- Open
and maintain case files in line with HIAS SOPs and broader protection case
management guidelines
- Conduct
initial interviews, risk assessments, and vulnerability screening for
individuals referred across all subsectors.
- Conduct
comprehensive protection assessments, including GBV and child protection
risk assessments, and monitor socio-environmental risks affecting
vulnerable individuals and households to ensure timely mitigation.
- Conduct
one-on-one interviews with adults and children to understand emerging
protection concerns, and support safe, confidential, and child-friendly
reporting mechanisms for GBV and child protection cases.
- Participate
in protection outreach, community dialogues, and awareness-raising
activities to strengthen community prevention and response to GBV and
child protection violations.
Case Planning:
- Develop
individualized case plans, ensuring timely and appropriate service
provision, referral, and follow-up.
Referral Pathways:
- Maintain
and regularly update a comprehensive service mapping of referral partners
(health, legal, shelter, police, specialized MHPSS, etc.) and facilitate
safe and confidential referrals.
Documentation:
- Ensure
all case data and documentation are handled with strict adherence to confidentiality
principles and organizational data protection standards
- Update
client information in the data management system and generate periodic
analyses to inform program decisions.

Thematic Expertise and Program Implementation functions
Gender-Based Violence (GBV):
- Identify
and provide post-incident protection services to refugee women and girls
who are survivors of GBV, child protection risks, or other forms of
trauma.
- Support
the running of safe spaces and facilitate psycho-educational sessions
focused on GBV prevention, risk mitigation, and available services.
- Provide
immediate support and crisis intervention to survivors, following the
global GBV Guiding Principles (Safety, Confidentiality,
Respect, and Non-Discrimination).
- Facilitate
referrals of GBV survivors and children at risk to partner agencies and
follow up to ensure clients access appropriate external services.
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS):
- Review
all social and psychological assessment reports and coordinate referrals
to the MHPSS department and other internal services as needed.
- Facilitate
community-level MHPSS activities, including group support sessions and
recreational activities, focused on resilience-building.
- Identify
individuals requiring specialized mental health care and facilitate onward
referral to clinical professionals.
LGBTQI+ Protection:
- Establish
and maintain contact with LGBTQI+ individuals and community focal points
to understand specific protection risks and needs (e.g., housing,
discrimination, physical safety).
- Provide
or coordinate tailored and discrete assistance, ensuring interventions are
culturally sensitive and affirm the individual’s identity.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Coordination
Reporting:
- Prepare
accurate and timely weekly and monthly activity reports, highlighting key
protection trends, challenges, and service gaps across all subsectors.
- Monitor
GBV, MHPSS, and child protection trends through data collection and
analysis, prepare summaries for presentation in psychosocial panels, and
implement panel decisions.
- Prepare

Advocacy:
- Contribute
to protection monitoring reports and support advocacy efforts aimed at
improving the legal and operational environment for refugees and asylum

Associate will assist in mapping potential donors and partners, coordinating
and preparing proposals, drafting and distributing newsletters and donor

POSITION SUMMARY:

Aid. The nurse aid will be responsible for assisting patients with daily living
activities, monitoring vital signs, and providing physical and emotional
support to patients and families. The incumbent will be required to ensure
individual holistic health care is maintained throughout.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responding
to medical emergencies and offering first aid services.

out medical screening and observations during intake of clients

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Officer will provide accounting and financial
services necessary for the continued operations of the organization and will
take care of all the important accounting functions of the organization,

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Accounting

monthly, quarterly, and mid-year donor financial reports for submission to
the Country Director and HIAS Headquarters, ensuring that backup of
