JOB SUMMARY
The Communication Officer will support the Communications
Department in the development and dissemination of information related to Amref
Health Africa’s initiatives in Kenya through Imarisha-jamii project. This role
will contribute to ensuring that communication strategies are implemented
effectively, and that the organization’s mission and goals are communicated clearly
to both internal and external stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Content Creation & Management:
- Draft,
edit, and proofread internal and external communication materials ensuring
adherence to organizational branding and messaging guidelines.
- Coordinate
with different departments to collate stories, updates, and achievements
for monthly newsletters and reports.
- Work
with graphic designers and videographers to produce visually appealing
communication assets.
Media Relations:
- Assist
in coordinating and facilitate media activities such as press conferences,
interviews, and media visits to project sites.
- Develop
and regularly update a media contact list, ensuring relationships with key
media personnel are nurtured.
- Track
media coverage to assess the reach and impact of Amref’s stories in the
public domain.
Digital Media:
- Collaborate
with the digital team to schedule, post, and monitor content on Amref’s
social media platforms.
- Engage
with online audiences, responding to comments and queries in a timely
manner.
- Use
digital analytics tools to produce monthly reports on web and social media
engagement metrics, offering recommendations for improvement.
Event Coordination:
- Assist
in the planning, organization, and execution of public relations events,
ensuring all logistics are managed efficiently.
- Collaborate
with media partners to ensure effective publicity and coverage of events.
- Post-event,
compile reports detailing outcomes, media coverage, and areas of
improvement.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain
an organized digital library of communication materials, ensuring easy
access and retrieval of photographs, videos, and documents.
- Document
communication activities, capturing details of media coverage, outreach,
and impact.
- Assist
with budgeting for communication activities, ensuring cost- effectiveness
and adherence to set budgets.
Research & Analysis:
- Monitor
health trends and news, identifying opportunities for Amref to leverage in
its communications.
- Assist
in conducting periodic stakeholder analysis to understand and tailor
communication strategies to varying audience needs.
Collaboration:
- Regularly
liaise with other departments to gather relevant information for
communication materials.
- Participate
in inter-departmental meetings, providing updates on communication
activities and garnering inputs for upcoming campaigns.
- Support
partnership-building by assisting in the creation of partnership
presentations, ensuring they effectively communicate Amref’s value
proposition.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s
degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Development Communication,
or a related field.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum
of three (3) years’ relevant experience in a communications role.
- Experience
project management is an added advantage.
- Working
knowledge of internal communication tools and channels.
- Experience
working in Arid and Semi-Arid (ASAL) regions is an added advantage.

SRHR Technical Officer at Amref Kenya
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Under the Center Court Africa project, the technical officer
will support activities at community level that facilitate acceptance of SRHR
through sporting activities among adolescents, young people and community
members. The position holder will be based at the Nairobi County and will
support demand creation and service delivery activities in target sub-counties.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical support to project implementation
- Promote
SRHR service delivery through static facilities and outreach models.
- Promote
integration of services in the different services delivery points, for
instance, FP/RH into HIV/TB clinic.
- Strengthen
inter-facility referral for family planning services, for instance from
faith base.
- Support
training and mentorship sessions for SRHR Champions.
- Support
sports tournaments and bonanzas in Dagoretti Sub County.
- Facilitate
peer champion led intergenerational community dialogues on SRHR.
- Facilitate
career guidance, life skills and mentorship sessions for adolescent
mothers.
- Support
linkage of adolescents and young mother support groups to financial
institutions and government safety net programmes.
- Facilitate
annual sports career guidance, life skills and mentorship sports and
engagement days for girls and boys.
- Regularly
undertake field activities with Implementing partners and provide
technical and mentoring support to ensure timely implementation and
quality outcome of the CSE project activities.
- Together
with the SRHR Programme Specialist, support execution of the periodic
planning, review meetings and workshops.
- Coordinate
the development and implementation of a multi-year work plan.
- Support
advocacy and communication processes for the project.
Partnership and networking
- Establish
and support quarterly sports stakeholder meetings with sports clubs, local
businesses, sports federations and talent academies.
- Liaise
with relevant partners, stakeholders and collaborators to facilitate
activities at community, sub-county, county and national levels.
- Maintain
a good working relationship between Amref, ministry of health, Nairobi
City County and other partners/stakeholders.
- Actively
participate in the drawing, implementation and supervision of quarterly
and annual project implementation plan with other partners/stakeholders.
- Support/document
successes, lesson learnt and challenges in implementation.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Prepare
project activity reports as required, including monthly, quarterly and
annual reports
- Conducting
regular field visits to project beneficiaries in collaboration with key
stakeholders to monitor progress.
Knowledge management
- Participate
in development of case studies and human-interest stories for the project.
- Coordinate
SRHR content development for health communication and development.
Admin and Financial management
- Support
in day-to-day management of activity budgets including processing field
imprests and other financial transactions.
- Ensure
timely accounting for the use of project resources by stakeholders
and communities in liaison with finance teams.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong experience in
adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), life skills
education, youth engagement, and community-based programming, with the ability
to work effectively with adolescents, schools, coaches, health systems, and
community structures.
Required Experience and Background
- Bachelor’s
degree in Health Sciences, Community Health, Social Sciences, Psychology,
Education, or a related field.
- At
least 3 years of experience implementing adolescent SRHR, youth
empowerment, gender, or community health programmes.
- Demonstrated
experience facilitating life skills training and mentorship programmes for
adolescents and young people, particularly girls and vulnerable
populations.
- Strong
understanding of adolescent-friendly health services, gender-based
violence (GBV) prevention and response, mental health and psychosocial
support (MHPSS), and safeguarding principles.
- Experience
using sports, youth clubs, schools, or other community platforms to engage
adolescents in health promotion and behavior change initiatives is highly
desirable.
- Proven
ability to create safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for adolescents
to discuss SRHR, mental health, gender equality, and life opportunities.
- Experience
working with schools, community leaders, youth groups, county governments,
and health facilities to strengthen referral pathways and access to
services.
- Strong
facilitation, communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Demonstrated
ability to coordinate community outreach activities, mentorship
programmes, and adolescent engagement initiatives.
- Experience
in programme reporting, documentation of impact stories, and monitoring of
programme indicators.
- Ability
to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and manage
relationships with partners and local stakeholders.

Intern – WHEEL Project at Amref Kenya
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To support the implementation of sustainable WASH interventions in vulnerable public primary schools and communities. The Intern will play a key role in improving health outcomes through preventive and promotive health strategies in intervention sites.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Intern will report to the Project Officer and work closely with other team members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In consultation with
the Project Officer and Project Associate, the intern will be responsible for
the following.
Community Health
- Facilitate selection of community wells
and longitudinal water quality testing.
- Support training of Water Management
Committees.
- Facilitate Community Dialogues in targeted
villages.
School Health promotion in targeted schools
- Support behaviour change interventions in
targeted schools.
- Support training of targeted school Boards
of Management on WASH and school health promotion.
- Seek innovative behaviour change
strategies as per the WHEEL project model.
- Support in the mapping of WASH school
needs.
- Work closely with school leadership
structures to ensure project sustainability.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Conduct needs assessment and support
selection of beneficiary schools targeted with WASH outputs.
- Spearhead longitudinal water quality
testing in project sites.
- Conduct monitoring visits to project
schools.
Community Mobilization
- Engage communities for project entry and
implementation success.
- Support training of community groups on
WASH.
Other Tasks
- Support project, departmental and

Qualifications
Educational Background
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health,
Environmental Health, Community Health, or a related field.
Experience
