Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is strengthening quality of implementation of the project activities by contributing to (i) strengthen Monitoring, Evaluation and Research activities in the project (ii) Coordination of project activities.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

M&E System Strengthening

  • Support in Strengthening Existing M&E systems in the project and Amref    Kenya Country Office.
  • Support in development and implementation of M&E plans and performance frameworks, work plans and budgets for the project.
  • Support in tracking of project activities to ensure conformance to project objectives, work plans, budget and expected results.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Support data capture and reporting using monitoring tools to track project indicators as per the performance framework. This include updating Grant Management Information System, quarterly dashboards and Global Fund progress updates (PU) and Progress update and disbursement request (PUDR).
  • Support in the technical review of Sub Recipients reports.
  • Maintain databases back up and filing systems for projects data.
  • Participate in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual programmatic performance reports.
  • Support project implementation team to document, disseminate lessons learnt, and best practices.

Quality Assurance for M&E, Technical Assistance and Capacity Building

  • Work with the team to ensure quality management of project related data through execution of regular data quality audits and onsite data verification exercises.
  • Capacity building of Sub Recipients (SRs) on Monitoring and Evaluation in line with grant provision, organizational systems strengthening and performance-based funding.
  • Ensure compliance to internal policies, statutory requirements and donor requirements.

Project coordination

  • Participate in preparation of SRs work plans.
  • Support in Providing technical support in the development and writing of new concepts and proposals for fundraising.
  • Participate in design, planning and implementation of project activities for the entire country.
  • Comprehensively represent the project at consultative meetings with government (mainly clinicians at National and county levels and other key stakeholders including Technical Working Groups, progress review meetings nationally and internationally.

Technical Support

  • Provide technical support to ensure quality programmatic implementation of the project activities.
  • Develop capacity of CSOs to implement, monitor and report on grants awarded through provision of technical advice and mentorship.
  • Provide technical support in the development and writing of new concepts and proposals for fundraising.

Operations Research and continuous quality improvement

  • Participate in operation research within the project and in other continuous quality improvement initiatives within the project; Support in sharing project success through development of abstracts and manuscripts and publications in peer reviewed journals

Organization and Programme growth

  • Ensure program integration and growth by participating in meetings and  conferences.
  • Participate in business development for programme and organization.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • University degree preferably in statistics, health records, public health, epidemiology, project planning and management, Demography, or related disciplines, with at least 3 years work experience.
  • Possess Professional M&E training.
  • Work experience in public health programme implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation and stakeholder engagement and with Global Fund experience will be an added value.
  • Proficiency in database and statistical packages such as DHIS2, SPSS, STATA, Stata, Epi Info, R, and Microsoft Office applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Must be conversant with the Ministry of Health M&E tools and system, TB and HIV tools and systems.
  • Experience working with TB and HIV programs.
  • Ability to interact skillfully and diplomatically with numerous counterparts, including donors, Ministry of Health officials, local partners and communities.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with a great deal of independence.
  • Demonstrate professionalism; good knowledge to design, develop and maintain M&E Strategy, Policies and Procedures.
  • Computer literacy and good knowledge of ERP/SAP.

JOB SUMMARY

The Communication Officer will support the Communications Department in the development and dissemination of information related to Amref Health Africa’s initiatives in Kenya through Imarisha-jamii project. This role will contribute to ensuring that communication strategies are implemented effectively, and that the organization’s mission and goals are communicated clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Creation & Management:

  • Draft, edit, and proofread internal and external communication materials ensuring adherence to organizational branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Coordinate with different departments to collate stories, updates, and achievements for monthly newsletters and reports.
  • Work with graphic designers and videographers to produce visually appealing communication assets.

Media Relations:

  • Assist in coordinating and facilitate media activities such as press conferences, interviews, and media visits to project sites.
  • Develop and regularly update a media contact list, ensuring relationships with key media personnel are nurtured.
  • Track media coverage to assess the reach and impact of Amref’s stories in the public domain.

Digital Media:

  • Collaborate with the digital team to schedule, post, and monitor content on Amref’s social media platforms.
  • Engage with online audiences, responding to comments and queries in a timely manner.
  • Use digital analytics tools to produce monthly reports on web and social media engagement metrics, offering recommendations for improvement.

Event Coordination:

  • Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of public relations events, ensuring all logistics are managed efficiently.
  • Collaborate with media partners to ensure effective publicity and coverage of events.
  • Post-event, compile reports detailing outcomes, media coverage, and areas of improvement.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain an organized digital library of communication materials, ensuring easy access and retrieval of photographs, videos, and documents.
  • Document communication activities, capturing details of media coverage, outreach, and impact.
  • Assist with budgeting for communication activities, ensuring cost- effectiveness and adherence to set budgets.

Research & Analysis:

  • Monitor health trends and news, identifying opportunities for Amref to leverage in its communications.
  • Assist in conducting periodic stakeholder analysis to understand and tailor communication strategies to varying audience needs.

Collaboration:

  • Regularly liaise with other departments to gather relevant information for communication materials.
  • Participate in inter-departmental meetings, providing updates on communication activities and garnering inputs for upcoming campaigns.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Development Communication, or a related field.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in a communications role.
  • Experience project management is an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of internal communication tools and channels.
  • Experience working in Arid and Semi-Arid (ASAL) regions is an added advantage.

SRHR Technical Officer at Amref Kenya

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Under the Center Court Africa project, the technical officer will support activities at community level that facilitate acceptance of SRHR through sporting activities among adolescents, young people and community members. The position holder will be based at the Nairobi County and will support demand creation and service delivery activities in target sub-counties.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical support to project implementation

  • Promote SRHR service delivery through static facilities and outreach models.
  • Promote integration of services in the different services delivery points, for instance, FP/RH into HIV/TB clinic.
  • Strengthen inter-facility referral for family planning services, for instance from faith base.
  • Support training and mentorship sessions for SRHR Champions.
  • Support sports tournaments and bonanzas in Dagoretti Sub County.
  • Facilitate peer champion led intergenerational community dialogues on SRHR.
  • Facilitate career guidance, life skills and mentorship sessions for adolescent mothers.
  • Support linkage of adolescents and young mother support groups to financial institutions and government safety net programmes.

Partnership and networking

  • Establish and support quarterly sports stakeholder meetings with sports clubs, local businesses, sports federations and talent academies.

  • Maintain a good working relationship between Amref, ministry of health, Nairobi City County and other partners/stakeholders.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Coordinate SRHR content development for health communication and development.

Admin and Financial management

  • Support in day-to-day management of activity budgets including processing field imprests and other financial transactions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong experience in adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), life skills education, youth engagement, and community-based programming, with the ability to work effectively with adolescents, schools, coaches, health systems, and community structures.

Required Experience and Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Community Health, Social Sciences, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience implementing adolescent SRHR, youth empowerment, gender, or community health programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating life skills training and mentorship programmes for adolescents and young people, particularly girls and vulnerable populations.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent-friendly health services, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and safeguarding principles.
  • Experience using sports, youth clubs, schools, or other community platforms to engage adolescents in health promotion and behavior change initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to create safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for adolescents to discuss SRHR, mental health, gender equality, and life opportunities.
  • Experience working with schools, community leaders, youth groups, county governments, and health facilities to strengthen referral pathways and access to services.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement skills.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
