About Girls First Initiative
Girls First Initiative (GFI) is a locally-led, women-driven
organization based in Tanzania, committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by
investing in the education, health, and economic empowerment of adolescent
girls and young women in underserved communities. Through three programme
pillars — Her Education, Her Health, and Her Economy — GFI has reached over
30,000 girls and young women across 21 schools in five regions.
Position Summary
GFI is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven
Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Officer to lead the design and
implementation of monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL)
systems across all programme pillars. The M&E Officer will ensure that data
collection, analysis, and reporting are rigorous, timely, and used to
strengthen programme quality, demonstrate impact to funders and partners, and
inform organizational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Design
and maintain GFI's M&E framework, including indicators, tools, and
data collection systems aligned to the organization's Theory of Change.
- Lead
data collection, verification, and management for all program pillars (Her
Education, Her Health, Her Economy), ensuring accuracy and consistency
across regions.
- Develop
and maintain databases and dashboards to track beneficiary reach,
outcomes, and programme indicators in real time.
- Support
field teams and community volunteers to collect quality data through
training on M&E tools and protocols.
- Conduct
regular data quality assessments, field verification visits, and spot
checks across the five operating regions.
- Analyze
programme data to produce timely reports, success stories, and impact
briefs for donors, partners, and internal use.
- Coordinate
baseline, midline, and endline assessments, as well as periodic surveys
tied to specific grants and initiatives.
- Support
proposal development and donor reporting by providing accurate data,
evidence, and analysis on programme performance.
- Facilitate
learning reviews with programme teams to translate M&E findings into
actionable programme improvements.
- Ensure
ethical data practices, including informed consent and safeguarding of
sensitive information on adolescent girls.
- Maintain
documentation systems for case studies, testimonials, and other
qualitative evidence of impact.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's
degree in Statistics, Monitoring & Evaluation, Social Sciences,
Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field.
- At
least 3 years of relevant M&E experience, preferably with an NGO
working on gender, education, health, or youth economic empowerment.
- Demonstrated
experience designing M&E frameworks, logframes, or Theory of
Change-aligned indicator systems.
- Proficiency
in data management and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, KoboToolbox, ODK, or
similar platforms).
- Strong
report writing skills, with the ability to translate data into clear
narratives for varied audiences.
- Experience
conducting field visits and working directly with community-level teams
and beneficiaries.
- Fluency
in Kiswahili and English, spoken and written.
- Willingness
to travel regularly to programme regions across Tanzania.
- A
strong commitment to girls' and young women's rights, gender equality, and
safeguarding principles.
