QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE RESEARCH ENUMERATORS – ENDLINE SURVEY IN TURKANA COUNTY

Africa Research and Data Ltd (ARD) in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), invites applications for Quantitative and Qualitative Research Enumerators for the Endline Survey for the “Integrated Emergency Drought Response in Turkana County". 

The end-line survey will quantify and explain the Integrated Emergency Drought Response’s final results—measuring progress against baseline targets, capturing lessons and unintended effects, and providing a fresh evidence base to shape a more resilient, inclusive and cost-effective next phase of drought response in Turkana County (Loima Sub County, Turkana Central and Turkana South Sub-County).

Duties of the Research Enumerators:

The duties of the research enumerators will encompass a range of tasks vital to the success of the study.

  1. Conduct Field Surveys: Carry out face-to-face interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and key informant interviews (KIIs) with selected participants, including Household Surveys (HHs) with the community members. Employ culturally sensitive interaction techniques to gather accurate and comprehensive data.
  2. Data Collection via Digital Tools: Use mobile data collection tools such as Kobo Collect to capture survey data efficiently and accurately. Ensure that all data entered is complete, accurate, and submitted in real-time where possible.
  3. Quality Control and Verification: Review collected data daily to ensure all questions are answered and to verify the accuracy of the information provided. Follow up with participants to clarify ambiguous responses or complete missing information.
  4. Participant Follow-Up: Conduct follow-up interviews or surveys with participants as required by the study protocol. Address any concerns or questions participants may have regarding the survey or their involvement.
  5. Training and Preparation: Participate in training sessions to fully understand the survey tools and methodologies, including specific training on disability sensitivity and inclusion. Stay informed about the study’s ethical guidelines and confidentiality requirements.
  6. Reporting and Documentation: Compile notes/audio recordings and submit detailed reports of each day's field activities and findings to the Field Coordinator. Prepare and maintain detailed records, including consent forms, survey forms, and any other documentary evidence collected during the study.
  7. Coordination and Communication: Work closely with the Field Coordinator and other team members to ensure effective communication and coordination within the team. Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies for effective data collection.
  8. Ethical and Cultural Sensitivity: Maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct in all interactions with study participants and other community members. Respect local customs and norms, ensuring that all activities are conducted in a culturally sensitive manner.
  9. Safety Management: Adhere to all safety protocols to minimize risks to both the research team and participants.

These duties are designed to ensure that Research Enumerators are fully engaged and effective in collecting high-quality, reliable data that will contribute to the development of informed, targeted interventions in Loima Sub County, Turkana Central and Turkana South Sub-County.

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for potential candidates include:

  1. Educational Background: A diploma or undergraduate degree in Social Studies or Education is required.
  2. Language Proficiency: Fluency in Swahili and English is required, with proficiency in both oral and written communication. Fluency in Turkana or other local languages prevalent in Loima Sub County, Turkana Central and Turkana South Sub-County is highly desirable.
  3. Experience in Data Collection: Demonstrable experience in electronic data capture methods, utilizing tools such as KOBO Collect and the ability to operate electronic digital recorders.
  4. Sector Experience: Previous experience working within the Social/Education Sector -  in the field of Health, Nutrition, Food Security, WASH and Protection.
  5. Experience in Data Collection: Proven experience in using electronic data capture methods is essential. This includes familiarity with tools such as KOBO Collect, other similar devices, and electronic digital recorders.
  6. Sector Experience: Previous work experience in the field of Health, Nutrition, Food Security, WASH and Protection.

Mandatory Requirements:

Given the technical demands of this assignment, it is essential that data collection is conducted by individuals with a deep understanding of the local context. Therefore, we will prioritize applications from those with proven experience in disability studies or community development projects in Loima Sub County, Turkana Central and Turkana South Sub-County.

Remuneration

Research Enumerators will be paid Ksh 2,500/= Per Day for the Days Worked. Field Logistics (Transport, Lunch and Airtime) will be catered for during field work.
