Position Overview:
The Accountant ensures reliable financial
recordkeeping, timely reporting, and strong compliance with
organizational and statutory financial requirements. Accurate financial
systems ensure that programs can operate effectively and sustainably. This role
directly supports responsible use of resources intended to improve youth
wellbeing.
Roles and responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Record
and reconcile all financial transactions in line with organizational
policies and accounting standards.
- Support
and or prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and
support budget variance analysis.
- Maintain
general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries as required.
- Support
in the preparation of year-end financial statements and audits.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process
vendor payments, staff reimbursements, and other disbursements accurately
and on time.
- Monitor
receivables, follow up on outstanding invoices, and support donor
reporting and grant tracking.
- Maintain
proper documentation and coding of transactions for audit readiness.
- Manage
the Boya expense system according to departmental policies and
procedures.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Support
the development of annual budgets and assist teams with budget
monitoring.
- Help
track project-level spending to ensure alignment with grant agreements and
internal allocations.
Compliance & Controls:
- Ensure
compliance with local tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Support
the implementation and monitoring of internal controls across all finance
functions.
- Assist
with payroll processing and related tax filings.
Process Improvement & Collaboration:
- Identify
opportunities to streamline finance systems and processes for improved
efficiency.
- Collaborate
with program, operations, and development teams to ensure financial
accuracy and responsiveness to team needs.
- Maintain
confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with
integrity.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA K
preferred.
- Minimum
4 years of accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit or project-based
environment.
- Proficiency
in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) and Excel.
- Strong
understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience
working with donor-funded projects or grants is an added advantage.
