General Position Summary
The Graduate Intern – MEL is a position within the Country
MEL team. Under supervision, the Intern will support the management, quality
assurance, analysis and use of programme data across the Mercy Corps Kenya
portfolio.
The Graduate Intern will receive exposure to the MEL cycle,
including results measurement, digital data collection, data cleaning and
validation, dashboard development, basic statistical analysis, documentation,
research support, learning and adaptive management.
In this role, the Graduate Intern will gain practical
exposure to analyzing market systems, understanding the behavior of market
actors, assessing the sustainability of programme results, and evaluating how
development initiatives contribute to long-term, inclusive change.
Essential Job Responsibilities
MEL Data Systems and Documentation
- Support
the testing, review and documentation of digital data-collection tools and
workflows, including CommCare forms and applications.
- Assist
with preparation and maintenance of data dictionaries, indicator mappings,
user guidance, system documentation and change logs.
- Support
routine checks on data synchronization, completeness and system
functionality, and document issues for resolution by the responsible
technical staff.
- Assist
with organizing programme databases, evidence files and MEL records using
agreed naming, version-control and access protocols.
- Provide
basic user support and contribute to simple learning materials for
programme teams and partners, under supervision.
Data Management, Quality and Responsible Data
- Support
data cleaning, coding, validation, deduplication and preparation of
programme, participant and partner datasets.
- Conduct
routine data-quality checks for missing values, inconsistencies,
duplicates, unusual patterns and incomplete supporting documentation.
- Assist
programme and MEL teams to track and resolve identified data-quality
issues while maintaining a clear audit trail.
- Apply
approved confidentiality, access-control, data-protection, anonymization
and secure file-handling procedures.
- Support
preparation of validated datasets for reporting, dashboards, research and
evaluation activities.
Data Analysis, Visualization and Reporting
- Use
Excel and other approved tools to produce basic descriptive statistics,
summaries, tables, charts and routine analytical outputs.
- Support
the preparation, testing and updating of Power BI dashboards and
standardized programme performance reports.
- Assist
with disaggregation and trend analysis by geography, sex, age and other
relevant inclusion or programme variables.
- Support
analysis of participant reach, outcomes, service access, partner
performance and programme implementation trends.
MEL, Research, Learning and Adaptive Management
- Assist
with survey preparation, digital-tool testing, field monitoring,
assessments, evaluations and other evidence-generation activities.
- Support
basic quantitative and qualitative data organization and analysis,
including coding of structured qualitative information where appropriate.
- Support
analysis of MSD information, including market-actor reach and performance,
changes in access and use of services, behaviour and relationship changes,
inclusion, sustainability and emerging signs of wider system change.
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Work
collaboratively with Country MEL colleagues, programme teams, partners and
relevant regional or global technical teams.
- Participate

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills
- A
bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Applied Statistics,
Economics and Statistics, Information Systems, Computer Science,
Information Technology, Business Information Technology, Mathematics and
Computer Science, Operations Research, Actuarial Science, Monitoring and
Evaluation, or another closely related quantitative discipline.
- Candidates
from a technical or computing discipline should demonstrate basic exposure
to MEL, research or programme-performance concepts through coursework,
academic research, volunteering or self-directed learning. Candidates from
Monitoring and Evaluation or a related development discipline should
demonstrate foundational quantitative, data-management and digital-systems
capability.
- Graduated

- Basic

- Foundational

- Basic

Graduate Intern-Finance at Mercy Corps
The Position
Working within the Finance Department and reporting to the
Senior Finance Officer, Nairobi, the Finance Graduate Intern will support the
timely and accurate processing and recording of financial transactions. The
role will also assist in maintaining proper filing, documentation, and
archiving financial records. Throughout the internship, the successful
candidate will gain practical exposure and hands-on exposure to key finance
functions in the international humanitarian and development organization.
Essential Responsibilities
FINANCIAL MANAGMENT
- Prepare
cash payment vouchers and ensure that all cash transactions are fully and
properly documented in relation to batch assigned in the Finance System.
- Perform
daily cash count with the Finance Officer, Snr Finance Officer or other
person
- Record
payment vouchers daily in the cash sub-journal for the batch
- Maintain
the uncleared cash advance file and prepare past due advance report for
the Finance officer or Snr Finance Officer on monthly basis.
- Support
Finance officer/Snr Finance Officer to record payment vouchers daily in
the bank and cash sub journal assigned.
- Responsible
for gathering transaction documents required for donor reporting.
- Assist
with audit related requirements (timely documents retrieval, filing after
audit completion, proving additional assistance as necessary)
- Assist
with scanning, copying, printing, and uploading of financial documents on
relevant folders including monthly payments and vouchers for posting by
the main office.

FILING & ARCHIVING
- Responsible
for filing all cash and bank vouchers and maintaining voucher filing

with Sub-grant management and organizing sub-grant files.
TAX
- Support
Finance Officer/Snr Finance Officer with processing of withholding VAT and
withholding tax as per KRA regulations including scanning copies to the
main office on weekly basis.

The Senior Regional Manager: Chief of Staff & Product
Lead plays a key executive-level role on the Jobtech Alliance program.
Operating as part of the ‘Office of the Program Directors’ across Mercy Corps
and BFA Global, ensuring that tactics align to strategy, that priorities remain
priorities, and that the organization has the product and systems to ensure
effective delivery at speed and scale. The Jobtech Alliance seeks to utilize
technology to deliver best-in-class ecosystem services and start-up acceleration,
and this role ensures that we are set-up with the internal- and external-facing
products to make this a reality.
Key Responsibilities
STRATEGY, PEOPLE, CULTURE & ACCOUNTABILITY (30%)

The Program / Department / Team
The Operations Department is committed to implementing and
maintaining the highest standards of efficiency and integrity in the operations
functions. The overriding objective for all administration and logistics
operations is the prompt and effective provision of support services to Mercy

The Position
The driver works within the Operations department of the
logistics support structure to provide safe transport services for Mercy Corps
program in the respective field location(s). The driver will adhere to all
traffic and Mercy Corps safety rules and follow the transport guidelines
required by the Mercy Corps operations department and the country traffic
rules.
Essential Responsibilities
- Operate
Mercy Corps vehicles as assigned by Supervisor.
- Maintain
vehicle log-sheets in accordance with Mercy Corps policies/regulations.
- Check
the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely – report needs and
problems to logistics team.
- Adhere
to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and
supervisor.
- Responsible
for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits,
spares etc.
- Keep
the vehicle ready, clean and on standby – ready for use at all times.
- Assist,
as required, with logistics in the office daily workloads.
- Cooperate
and be of assistance to staff and visitors – assist in troubleshooting
potential problems during daily business.
