Payments & Compliance Officer

DanChurchAid (DCA) seeks a highly competent, analytical, and detail‑oriented individual for the position of Payments & Compliance Officer. The position is based in Nairobi and reports to the Head of Finance & Support Services (HoFSS). The Payments & Compliance Officer supports the efficient and effective financial management of the DCA Kenya Country Office by strengthening compliance systems, ensuring quality financial transactions, and supporting staff, internal stakeholders, and partners on compliance with donor rules, DCA policies, and Government of Kenya regulations.

The main responsibilities of the Payments & Compliance Officer are:

1. Payments & Financial Processing

  • Review, verify, and process daily financial transactions and payment vouchers including invoices, contracts, and travel expense settlements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
  • Process timely and accurate payments for vendors, consultants, contractors, and staff.
  • Review expenditure postings and ensure correct budget coding in Maconomy.
  • Coordinate monthly and annual financial closing and ensure timely submission of financial reports.
  • Facilitate fund requests from HQ and manage fund flow for office running costs.

2. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance

  • Process payroll in compliance with the HR manual and the Income Tax Act.
  • Ensure accurate filing and remittance of all statutory deductions within set deadlines.
  • Provide tax deduction information to vendors, consultants, and staff.
  • Conduct financial compliance spot checks, internal reviews, and field visits.

3. Internal Controls & Compliance Monitoring

  • Review and recommend improvements to internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Support preparation and maintenance of organized financial documentation for audits.
  • Follow up on audit recommendations to ensure timely implementation.

4. Capacity Building & Staff Engagement

  • Conduct quarterly compliance training for staff and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide capacity building and compliance guidance to implementing partners.
  • Support the finance and programme teams with budgeting and documentation quality.
  • Keep staff updated on policy and regulatory changes.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Relevant Degree in Finance/Accounting or related field from a recognized university and/or (minimum) accounting qualification – CPA II
  • Minimum of five years’experience in accounting/finance, preferably with INGO experience.
  • Adequate working experience with any ERP system (Maconomy, QuickBooks/SAGE/Other).
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office; specifically, MS Excel, Word and Outlook. Familiarity with using TEAMs, Zoom  or other software for remote engagement an advantage)
  • Knowledge of and interest in the humanitarian and development context in Kenya.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a proven team player. Self-driven and results orientated in a challenging working environment.
  • Excellence in English, oral and written.

Resilience Specialist

DanChurchAid (DCA) is seeking to recruit an energetic Kenyan National for the position of Resilience Specialist. The position is Nairobi based – with frequent travel to DCA and partner areas of operation in Kenya, Ethiopia, and South Sudan – and reports to the SPREAD Consortium Project Manager based in Kenya. The role will be supported by a group of global resilience advisors. 

The Resilience Specialist will be responsible for providing technical assistance for the EU funded project titled ‘Strengthening integrated Peace, Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction for cross-border communities in the in the border region of South Omo/Ethiopia, Turkana/Kenya and Eastern Equatoria/South Sudan (SPREAD)

Role Purpose

  • Providing technical capacity-building support for the design, planning, and implementation of the project’s resilience components, in close collaboration with technical leads based with partners in Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and DCA Country Offices. This includes identifying training needs and coordinating with relevant colleagues—such as those from DCA Country Offices (COs), implementing partners, DCA Headquarters, or, where necessary, engaging external consultants or trainers.
  • Assessing technical experience and evidence from past interventions, as well as staying informed on regional initiatives and research related to resilience, to ensure integration of best practices, lessons learned, and emerging insights into project delivery. Ensuring alignment with DCA’s strategy and programmatic approaches and contributing to their refinement where evidence indicates the need for adjustment.
  • Maintaining technical oversight, the Specialist will be expected to take part in relevant networking events and engage in stakeholder relationships, in alignment with the Consortium Project Manager.
  • Convene and facilitate monthly meetings of the Consortium Resilience Working Group, ensuring effective coordination, follow-up on action points, and documentation of key discussions and decisions
  • Identifying synergies and coordinating with other resilience actions carried out by DCA and partners as well as other initiatives and actors. Internally, this will include regular sparring and sharing learnings with resilience colleagues in HQ (Programme, Advocacy & Learning / PAL Unit) and with colleagues in relevant COs, thereby contributing to building organisational learning. Advising and supporting the Consortium Project Manager and country level resilience colleagues on strategic partnerships and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Producing and contributing to policy briefing papers and technical reports together with country level and partner technical leads to support decision making processes and knowledge sharing – regionally and in country.

Required Education and Experience

Education: 

  • Relevant educational background (BSc, MSc) within the field of international development, resilience, environmental, social science or similar fields of expertise.

Experience:

  • At least five years’ experience of working internationally in climate / resilience issues in humanitarian and development settings.
  • Experience within the region, preferably from at least two of the countries in question – Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan. Experience from cross-border interventions is an added advantage.
  • Strong technical skills and experience on resilience building programming. In the context of this project, resilience encompasses environmental and climate, social and economic dimensions and emphasizes communities’ leadership and involvement, market-based approaches, gender sensitive and transformative action, human rights-based and conflict sensitive approaches.
  • Experience with agro-pastoral and pastoral food and livelihoods systems, integrated natural resources management (and conflict resolution related to natural resources), resilience design, agroecology and ecosystem-based adaptation approaches or similar is an advantage.

Skills and abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of the political, socio-economic and environmental contexts (regional and country contexts).
  • Strong understanding of risk management and disaster recovery principles.
  • Ability to coordinate and engage in-country and field-based colleagues, including keeping oversight and clarity in operations, despite the differing contexts of implementation and the different (technical) points of departure of colleagues from the three countries.

Personal qualities:

  • Ability to work independently, provide technical leadership and facilitate good team collaboration and learning across resilience colleagues in the three countries, and between the DCA-led and two other consortia engaged in the wider EU-funded programme.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively, build capacities and engage a variety of stakeholders effectively for achievement of results.
  • Ability to support and provide advice on challenging technical matters, energize colleagues and develop solutions.

DCA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Assistant with technical expertise in business and human rightsproject management, and advocacy for human rights and knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks for human rights and agriculture. The successful candidate will provide operational, technical, and administrative support to DCA Projects focused on human rights in agricultural value chains while contributing to other development and humanitarian initiatives. The Project Assistant will be based in Nairobi with regular travel to various project sites in Nakuru, Nyandarua and the larger Nairobi Metropolis (comprising Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos, Murang'a and Nairobi City). Depending on need, the position may be relocated to be based in Nakuru in the future. 

The main responsibilities of the Project Assistant are:

  1. Support project activities, including planning, implementation, advocacy efforts, stakeholder engagement and reporting.
  2. Provide technical expertise on business and human rights, including supporting research and analysis, development of tools and resources, integration of human rights principles into programs, and support for advocacy efforts to promote responsible business conduct in agricultural value chains.
  3. Provide cross-sectoral support through research, data collection, and stakeholder engagement. 
  4. Contribute to proposal development, funding applications, and strategic planning across development and humanitarian projects.
  5. Manage administrative and operational functions, including coordinating meetings, tracking budgets and procurement, supporting financial reporting, and maintaining effective communication with internal teams, partners, and project participants.

Required Education and Experience

The ideal candidate should be a holder of a degree in law, human rights, development studies, international relations or another relevant field required.

Experience:

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in human rights programming, advocacy, and multi-stakeholder engagement, preferably with INGOs.
  • Have proven experience supporting projects, including planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Have knowledge of business and human rights principles, regulatory frameworks, and their application in agriculture or related sectors.
  • Have strong ability to conduct legal and policy research, analyze data, and synthesize findings into actionable recommendations.

Other Competencies: 

The candidate should also have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences effectively.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
